Police should stay out of politics
Sean Orr, City Council candidate for VOTE Socialist objects to Vancouver Police Union election debate
VANCOUVER, BC: VOTE Socialist city council candidate was present at this evening’s Vancouver Police Union civic election debate with a simple message:
“Police should stay out of politics. The participation of VPD officers and now the intervention of the Vancouver Police Union is a threat to our local democracy.
We need to reallocate the VPD’s bloated budget, and to do that we need more civilian oversight and democratic control over the police – the last thing we need is the police getting even more directly involved in this election.
This year, it’s more important than ever that workers and renters and poor and marginalized people vote for candidates committed to working with social movements and civil society groups to reallocate the VPD’s bloated budget.”
