Democracy is under threat

SPECIAL APPEAL: We are writing today because our local democracy is under threat.

B.C.’s most notorious billionaire is trying to covertly buy this year’s municipal elections. And he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for some solid journalism by Dan Fumano in the Vancouver Sun.

Fumano’s article reveals that Chip Wilson - owner of Vancouver’s most expensive mansion - has seeded a new secretive right-wing foundation with $380,000 to help collect data and skew public opinion in favour of pro-corporate candidates.

Chip seems especially focused on defeating socialist candidates for office. Maybe he’s heard about VOTE Socialist, Vancouver’s newest political party.

“Chip has evicted my friends. He’s evicted artist spaces and music venues. He’s evicted charities. He’ll evict you too. Chip is bad. Chipping in to stop him from buying this election is good,” explains VOTE Socialist’s city council candidate Sean Orr

Help us fight against the billionaire class by chipping-in today ⇢

Chip Wilson’s anti-democratic activities should alarm everyone. The super-rich are waging a class war and hope you don’t notice. They are weaponizing the rhetoric of division and the mantra of personal responsibility in order to pad their pockets.

Every billionaire is a policy failure.

Billionaires hoard resources that the rest of us need and then pit us against each other to fight for the scraps. This is a feature, not a bug, of capitalism. Inequality is at the root of all our problems but the rich will have you believe it’s the result of some natural process. It’s not. The system is rigged.

The solution is elegantly simple: people over profits. That’s what VOTE Socialist and our candidates are all about.

We are a grassroots campaign. We don’t have any rich backers; we don’t have dark money from billionaires. But with your help, we will fight back and take on the billionaires.

Sean Orr and our team won’t mince words and we’ll always punch up, not down. Frankly we need to tax billionaires out of existence, for the sake of equality but also to protect our democracy from bullies like Chip Wilson.

We live in an oligopoly. Canada's top 1 percent have seen the fastest income acceleration and an overall decrease in taxes in recent years. This is unconscionable when record numbers of people are living on the streets or are one paycheck away from living on the streets.

That’s what we’re fighting to change. And with your help, we’ll win a Vancouver For All - and make Chip really upset.

Chip-in TODAY to help VOTE Socialist fight the billionaires.
