School Board candidate Dr. Karina Zeidler delivers important package to VSB office:
“Covid safety in schools means cleaning the air. Here’s a Corsi-Rosenthal Box to help get you started.”
VANCOUVER, B.C.: On Thursday, October 13 at 10:30 am, Dr. Karina Zeidler, who is running for Vancouver School Board Trustee, will deliver a Corsi-Rosenthal Box air purifier to the offices of the Vancouver School Board (1580 W. Broadway).
“When I’m elected to the Vancouver School Board, I’ll push for practical measures like these easy-to-make air filters to make our public schools safer,” explained Dr. Zeidler, who is running for office with the city’s newest elector organization, VOTE Socialist. “With massive waves of Covid rising all over Western Europe, there’s every indication this Fall and Winter will be a time of rampant re-infection in Vancouver schools - and we need to take action to prevent this harm.”
Government figures show that an astounding four out of five children in B.C. have already had Covid once, and all evidence points to most having been infected at school. Covid is a vascular disease that can do great harm to childrens’ health both in the short and long term. The UK reports 2-4% of children suffering with Long Covid.
The VSB has yet to produce an authenticated document by a registered engineer confirming that Vancouver schools have had their ventilation system properly assessed for COVID-19 mitigation, unlike private schools like St. George’s.
That’s why Dr. Karina Zeidler is running: to bring in sensible disease protections to Vancouver schools. She’s the only trustee candidate advocating for the return of universal masking, and a concerted effort to make sure that every classroom has ventilation that minimizes spread of Covid and other illness.
Corsi-Rosenthal Boxes, invented by Richard Corsi, Dean of Engineering at UC Davis California, work just as well to clean rooms of airborne pathogens (and pollutants such as forest fire smoke) as HEPA filter store-bought air purifiers. They can be made easily at home for ¼ of the price.
The box that Dr. Zeidler will deliver was made at a Corsi-Rosenthal Box-Making Party at the Vote Socialist office, on Sunday, Oct. 9. Other boxes are being delivered to mutual aid groups around the city, including Mask4EastVan.
“We hope that the VSB will discover all the good that cleaning the air can do, to not only prevent the spread of Covid, but also other communicable diseases like flu,” added Dr. Zeidler. We owe it to our kids to give them clean air. It’s their right, and it’s our moral duty to uphold that right.”
Vancouver voters go to the polls this Saturday, October 15.
